This is an exciting opportunity to join Sheridan’s Research department at CMI, the Centre for Mobile Innovation. The CMI is a research centre that creates innovative solutions to industry-relevant challenging problems through collaboration of faculty, students and staff researchers with industry, community, and academic partners. We use leading technologies such as Mobile, Machine Learning, Wearable Computing, Augmented/Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality (AR/VR/MR) and Internet of Things (IoT). The incumbent, reporting to the Director CMI, is responsible for managing all aspects of the CMI laboratories and ensures that research projects are executed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with all Sheridan and funder policies throughout the research pipeline from lead identification to execution and project closure. Areas of responsibility include centre operations, financial and human project management, industry and community partner relationship management, business outreach for research program/project development, and funding generation.
The Research Manager is accountable for supporting finance administrative staff in the Research Office in providing administrative support to teams, including human resources, finances (budgeting, project expenditures and invoicing), and writing applications and monitoring project execution. It is also expected that the incumbent both supports faculty Principal Investigators (PI) and staff and acts as the PI on certain research projects within their domain of expertise.
What you will be doing
- Providing operational management of CMI (human resources, lab infrastructure, financial planning and budgeting);
- Providing project management leadership to enable successful development and execution of research and and other strategic activities;
- Building research capacity and capabilities through support for faculty and other researchers and their teams throughout the entire research process from partnership and project development to project closure;
- Supporting the Director in sourcing new funding opportunities and developing relationships with external stakeholders (industry, community and academic partners);
- Providing student mentorship and opportunities for student learning and experience within research projects;
- Working together with the Research Office staff and faculty Principal Investigators and researchers to ensure that research project budgets are prepared appropriately and managed thoughtfully throughout the duration of research projects;
- Working with the Director and other team members to acquire and optimize the use of all CMI resources (human, financial, infrastructure) needed to fulfill the Centre’s mandate;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also possess the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree in computer science, or a related field of study
- 5 years relevant experience in research project leadership/management (equivalency to be considered)
- Experience with research proposal preparation and research within a field relevant to CMI
- PhD Computer Science, or related field of study and/or a professional certification (e.g., PMP or P.Eng.) is desired

Faculty/Department: Research – Centre for Mobile Innovation
Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working both on-site and remotely, expected to resume fully on-site TBD
Employee Group: Administrative
Hiring Range: $97,582 – $103,681
